Well its December, thats a wrap for probably one of the worst
economic years in the books in quite some time! I hope those of
you out there having tough times are doing their best to keep up
their spirits. This last month I have felt so much negative energy
in the air its scary. People splitting up, bikers going down in
wrecks, jobs lost, businesses down in revenue you name it! We are
all feeling the pains of the tough times so just hang in there! I
want to take the time to give a HUGE ATA BIKER to EVERYONE that
volunteered their time to help J.O. Batten put together his
Gunstock Music
festival on Halloween!
We could not have gotten it done without all of you! We had a
pretty good attendance of over 800 people last I heard so given
the economic times Id say thats pretty good for a one day event!
Between the help of all the volunteers, staff, and the bands that
worked with me during some of our technical difficulties I cant
thank you all enough for your patience and helping us put together
this event.
All of the live entertainment put on a fine show from the opening
act of Shakey Pudding ,Bungalo Bill Osbourne, Midnight
Run ,Amber Lynn Nicol ,Brian Chytka ,Jimmy Sparks Band,
Mark La Mountain & The Blue
Thunder Band, Cutler Spur, Kathy Jo & The Bluzification
band, Big Mike Griffen to David Allen Coe. Thanks to these bands
for coming out and putting on a show for us.Gotta say sorry to the
Blue Thunder band, due to our technical difficulties, they got a
very short amount of stage time. But we hope to have them and many
of these other bands back out to our 6th Party in the Pasture in
May 7-8th 2010!
On November 4th a surprise
birthday party was thrown for Dave Pras of Tri-County
Cycle. Happy 65th Dave! His wife and the Old Geezer club threw
together the party for him. If you live in the Hernando, Pasco, Citrus
County area and needed any machine work done on your scoot,
then Dave is the man that does it for most including Crystal River
HD! Give him a call at 352-796-2684
for any of you machine work needs or scooter supplies! Roscoes
Chili Challenge went down November 6-8th and from what I hear they
had a HUGE party. Well over 5k in attendance on friday alone.
Monkey Nation will have more to comment about that party! Im also
hearing that vision of Chopper Chip I had last month at Spooks
wasnt just a fuzzy outline, he should be back at Chopper Nation HQ
sometime next year! Gotta make sure we feed them Chopper boys
through the holidays! Gonna give a quick birthday shout out to
Monkey Nation, we will be partying by the magazine deadline for
sure! Thats it for now! Have a wonderful Holiday season and make
the best of it! Chickeman should be having his annual Weeki
Wachee Smoke Out this month so be sure to keep an
eye on www.scootergoods.com
for details! Here's to a better New Year!

November 2009
On October 9-11th a bunch of good ole biker folk headed on down to the Seratoma
Youth ranch in Spring Lake for Hillsbourough County Abate's 29th Spooks
N Scoots memorial celebration. We camped out with No Skool Choppers
for the weekend and had a blast! Attendance was down as compared to previous
years but there was plenty of fun to be had for sure! We ran into a lot of old
friends and made many new ones during this event. People always ask me where to
find some of the pics I take during any of the events we cover. There are two
main sites I send pics off two, one is Big Hog's www.hogknookers.com
and the other is Lockdown & Lady Harley's www.ifihavetoexplain.comAnd don’t forget WWW.SCOOTERGOODS.COMJust look under the photo sections and you will find photos of lots of
different events.
Abate went ahead and reconstructed the memorial plaques as more names needed to
be added and the old ones were about full of names of brothers and sisters gone.
I was glad to see the Bartman Bart Beck's name on there, he was a close friend
that was at last years Spooks, but is no longer with us. But there are plenty of
memories of good times that keep the memory of our friends and families alive
and with us. A helicopter came out and was offering rides at 20 bucks a person
with a portion of the proceeds going back to abate. Since they had the
helicopter up where they usually have the bike games,
the games were moved to the back field. We had nice and hot weather through most
of the event but the sky opened up a few times on saturday and during the bike
games. No Skool will have some comments about the bike games as soon as he stops
chasing his rear wheel sideways on the ground and pickin grass out his ass. I
thought I saw an shadowy vision of Chopper Chip in the woods, but it was
probably all the Tennessee Tea that made me think I saw him.
The rest of the event went off without a hitch except for someone thinking
they lost their duelly truck which someone reappeared on the other side of their
trailer, maybe they had some of that tea too! The beauty contest at the end of
the event was a blast and the bands that played throughout the weekend were
really good including the Runnin Hard band, Rockus and Anita Brunette to name a
few. Word is the Flashback party may be off the
calendar for awhile if not altogether, I wanted to ride down to the state
meeting but didn't have the chance to. The back roads
into San Antonio offer some really good riding
while at this event. We will be there next year for sure. I hope everyone enjoys
their time over Biketoberfest if you went along with the many other events that
went down this month along with the David Allen Coe
concert. Thats it for now, be safe out there as the snowbirds are
coming and be extra alert of whats goin on around ya! Ride Hard, Fast, and Live
free, thank our troops for our freedom!
HDGene & SweetJerseyGirl
October 2009 HD GENE & SWEET JERSEY GIRL Wow its October already and
the start of some of the best riding weather hopefully. We had a great
turnout at the Scootergoods 5th anniversary party. Thanks to all of our readers
that came out on a finally nice day and partied down with us. Kathy Jo and the
Bluzification band helped us all get bluzified during the hot day and there was
plenty of titties
and beer to be had as well. Most of us
have been home bound and laying low so it was great to see most of the
Scootergoods staff all together at one time. The Big Ragoo emceed the event and
had a boatload of stuff to give away all day. We enjoyed a door prize bottle of
Mojitos! Thanks Carmine for working hard all day and helping the Tiger Sanctuary
raise some funds with the items auctioned off towards the end of the party!
Meanwhile, while we were all having a good time here in Florida , our newest
Staff members Lowrider Dew & Tina got hitched on the other side of the
country back up in Washington State during an extended Sturgistrip. Congrats you
guys, we wish you all the joy and happiness you can handle! I guess it’s
colder up there already since the had their full leather son while exchanging
their vows during a ride with their friends. Now that we are in October the
events fall season of events will keep us all busy and it will be Xmas before we
evening blink. Spooks N Scoots is on our list of places to be this October
8th-10th. This is one of my favorite Abate run events. If you have never been
before you need to be there and check out the memorial service they do it is a
tear jerker for sure. Biketoberfest will be in full swing the following week, I
always recommend stopping by Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Old School Bike show in Ormond
Beach . It’s one of the few real deal biker events left out there and cheap
with $2 canned beer. Famous bike builders tend to make appearances there as well
so if you’re going to Daytona check out willies and maybe get some ink too!
There are lots of other local rides going onso keep an eye on the
www.scootergoods.com for updates, flyers and information. I Can’t sign off
this month’s article without mentioning the biggest event we have going on
this month. J.O. Batten is opening his Bull-It Rodeo gates for us this Halloween
with a 14 hour music concert with headliners Big Mike Griffin and DAVID ALLEN
COE. We will have 3 stages set up with music lined up starting at 10am and run
until midnight. See the flyer for all details and list of bands. We have a great
line up with some of our past rodeo favorites including The Jimmy Sparks band
and Kathy Jo and the Bluzification band. You are welcome to stay the evening if
you feel the need to drop a tent so make the best of it and come party with us
on Halloween! Thats all for now we gotta get our asses back out on the road and
make up for some lost time in the wind! Until next month or the next party be
sure to ride hard and live free!
HDGene & SweetJerseygirl!
Jim Batten, president of the DD214 Foundation, Inc.,
presented CommandantSal
Barone, of the Marine Corps League, Spring Hill Detachment 708, a check
for $18,000 at a special meeting on June 3rd at the detachment. Batten, a
former Marine, and his group of over 60 volunteers conduct biker rodeos which
bring biker support from all around America and Canada.
Their objective is to raise money to provide financial
assistance to wounded veterans at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital
and the numbers highlight their success. This is the fourth major donation
made to the detachment, who help manage the distribution of some of the monies
received. In the past two years, the DD214 Foundation has donated
over $65,000 to the Marine Corps League, Disabled
American Veterans and Veterans
of Foreign Wars. The beneficiaries are vets from all branches
of service and all wars. The MCL salutes Batten and his colleagues for
their devotion to our nation's finest and their outstanding fundraising efforts.
July 2009
Well summer has arrived with a vengeance folks so make
sure you take care of yourselves out there between the rain, the heat
& the cages. Lets all keep in mind to have a safe summer this year !
I want to thank the Marine Corp league for the
wonderful spaghetti dinner provided for the volunteers at the Biker Rodeo.
Where we were also treated to some wonderful ladies singing songs. They
reminded me of the Andrew sisters. Thank-you all for a very enjoyable
evening and it is always our pleasure to serve you also.
Well I have not heard anything personally on the
Freezer but we cruised on up there thinking it may be our last time, it
was a great ride with the apple dumpling gang & a few others. We
started from the Rebar & after a few eye openers, J.O. led us thru the
back roads, which is always a pleasure in itself, stopped at Ramble Inn,
it was the first time i seen the new bar and stage outside, very nice
folks, off we ventured, had a great time and meal at the Freezer, then
decided to go back to the Ramble Inn to enjoy the music, then headed for
home, but did we go home, nooooo, we went back to the Rebar cause we were
still thirsty and hot, so looks like were kicking the summer off to a good
start, that’s what its all about !
Don’t forget Jenny Rimmer will be doing her thing
(singing) for the 4th of July at Sleepy Hollow, I love that girl, she has
a way of putting me in a good mood when she does her tunes, of course they
will be serving food, & having fireworks when it reaches dark.
Celebrate our freedom with style ! Peace to all have a happy safe
Independence day , & don’t forget to thank a veteran Sweet Jersey
Girl
Happy
4th of July everyone, I hope you all
have a great holiday weekend in celebrating our nations independance! We
all need a good old fashioned holiday weekend to keep our sanity. Seems
like its all work, work, work lately with little time to play! Have to
recap a bit and mention the Leesburg Bikefest. We rode over for the day on
saturday and hit up a Meet and Greet for BikerorNot.com
at Steves Red House. This was the second annual get together and it was a
blast. They had a few hundred people arrive not counting the other people
there for the bikefest and what a great time. You cant go wrong when the
Jimy Sparks band is in the house rocking it out. Plus being a bar outside
of the main drag the prices for food and drink were normal and not the
overinflated $4 beers and up. But it wouldnt be a biker get together
without some sort of sheninigans goin on. They had jello wrestling for the
second time and it was no holds barred and no clothes on by the time it
was over! But it ended abruptly as one of the girl's mom came by and
dragged her out of the jello. The crowd started yelling Jerry! like an
episode of the Springer show, I was waiting for Steve to make an
appearance and break it up!
The weekend before the
rodeo we threw a surprise
birthday party for Chopper Chip of Chopper Nation at the pasture.
We had to break in the new stages and make sure they could handle some
good old fashioned birthday lap
dancing! I remember there was alot of beer and alot of Jager
and No Skool Choppers Mascot Chrissy made her debut appearance. Where does
Scrappy find these mascots I want one! Captain Scotty has been busy the
first sunday of each month down at the Pits Lounge feeding us with some
kick ass chicken and rib plates for 5 bucks a pop. Make sure you swing in
there after heading back from the Webster swap meet or wherever you might
be and get some killer grub!
The Bike nite scene has been on and off with the rain
the last couple of months but a bunch of us die hards still make it up to
Coney Island's every other thursday rain
or shine. Blair has been hookin us up with 1 cent Coney
Island Brew drafts on the rained out ones so swing on in and join
us if its raining and get some cheap brews and have some of his blackend garlic
chicken wings or coney dogs!Once again ATA biker to all of you that
come out and continue to help make the rodeo a huge success.
Until next month ride safe and live FREE!!!
MARCH 09
HD Gene & Sweet Jersey Girl : Damn its hard to believe we are already
3 months into the new year. Bikeweek should be going on as well as plenty
of other bike events all over the state. I feel like a broken record when
I say that alot of events will probably have less attendance with the ever
slowing economy but it is still very true that alot of people out there
are still loosing their jobs and having a tough time making ends meet. I
know this is primarily a biker rag, but I wanted to print some hopefully
helpful information that I am very familiar with. For those that don't
know I make a living turning a wrench. I am a professional A class auto
mechanic/technician and a ASE certified Master Technician with 20 years of
experience and almost all of it working for auto dealers. Now I’m in the
independent market and wanted to enlighten a few of you into some shady
dealership practices.Not alot of
people take a good look at what they are paying for, and let me say
upfront that not all dealers follow these tactics, but alot more do than
you would think. What I’m primarily talking about is how auto dealers
charge their labor and parts when performing NON warranty repairs. Here is
an example: You bring in your cage for say a check engine light being on.
The shop charges a flat hourly rate of say 90 bucks an hour. The dealer
checks out why the light is on and tells you what is needed to turn the
light off and make repairs. Here is where it can get shady. Say it take a
certain part to be replaced, you should inquire as to the price of the
part and part number and call around and see if you can get the same part
cheaper at another dealer or aftermarket source. Alot of times the dealer
has no preset price and will mark up the cost upwards of 100% of their
cost or suggested MSRP. Next is the most crucial thing, the actual labor
rate. We started off at 90 bucks an hours, say it takes 3 hours to replace
the part. So 3 hours X 90 bucks should be about $270.00 right? WRONG. What
alot of these places will do is what they call a labor hour matrix where
as the labor hours go up, so does the labor rate. if you don't break down
the math you will get taken and Ive seen it many times over the years. So
hopefully you keep that in mind next time you have work done. Break it
down to the penny, its your money after all and sometimes getting a good
quality aftermarket part is alot cheaper that what the dealer will
recommend. Stay smart and it will help you through these though times! Since
the beginning of the year I have been hearing about alot of accidents and
I hope you are all paying extra special attention out there, with the snow
birds being down, there are alot more people who are not conscious of us
being on the road. We have been not out too much this year but will be on
the road more in the coming months with the bigger events coming up. Also
I wanted to mention to you about a good deal for tunes on your scoot. On
average if you wanted to add on a stereo system to have tunes while you
ride you can pay upwards of 700 bucks. If you happen to be up at Coney
Island bike nite in Brooksville you can check out this sweet new system
that Dale Knott is selling. He has a website setup
www.redfishersdiscountsounds.com that offers a few different kinds of
stereos but they come complete with an IPOD style MP3 player and the
system cranks! ill be sure to update some more info but his sound systems
are running around 200 bucks, you cant beat that! Check out his website,
come up to coney or give him a call at 813-322-5303. Also I wanted to
mention the loss of our friend Bart Beck, he was taken from us due to
kidney failure. we miss you brother man and we all know you are riding
wide open throttle up there in the sky.Thank you to everyone that came out
to his service and afterwards to his place to celebrate his life and keep
him in our memories. Ok until next month ride safe and see you at the next
party! HDGene & SweetJereseygirl!
January 2009
Happy New
Year ~ I know there are plenty out there hoping and praying
it will be a better one. Always hold your head high and never give
up hope, We have been through this before and we can get through
this again. Its tuff times for most so even if you
only did one toy ride, it was much appreciated as we are all
feeling the "tuff times"
Lets not
forget our community neighbors. Keep an eye open, see if there is
anything you get do to help them get by, more and more are being
laid off and either don't know how or are too proud to ask for help, This
is a time we really need one another, so lets keep smiling for the
sake of all .This is a good time to pick some fruit from the
tree's, or perhaps the neighborhood kids can do it for you and
feel like they are helping in the family dilemma! A loaf of bread
and a dozen eggs can stretch pretty far and there are tons recipes
for eggs. Also potatoes same deal.
Thank-you
to Captain Scotty & Cindy for offering their
wonderful and sightful piece of property, outstanding, along with
the famous smoked chicken and pork for our appreciation party,
everyone brought a dish and it was enough to fill an army, J.O.
supplied the beer and the party was on !!! Good times.....
We did the Hernando
county sheriffs toy run and it was pretty cool. We were escorted
by two sheriffs motorcycle policemen, along with off duty
sheriffs officers, escorting us all the way to our destination. It
was a good turnout and many toys were donated along with cash, so
thanks for hosting that event and volunteering your time for the
kids, we enjoyed it as much as you did !
Our next
venture on that same day we were to attend "Chickenmans
Weeki-Wachee smoke out" Need I say more but besides the
delicious meat he cooks everyone loves the Brussels
sprouts and there are plenty of side
dishes, from the towns folk, so if you ever have an invite
be sure not to turn this one down ! and thanks everyone for making
it one of the most relaxing get together ever ! Why is it they
call you the rats again ? L.O.L.
With the
economy being as bad as it is, just remember your not alone, we
all sit in the same boat for now but sharing and taking care of
one another is the best we can do for each other. Lets
please remember it is also snow bird peak time, though fewer
traffic on the turf, we still need to keep our eyes open ! Have a
Happy New Year, Until we meet again~peace sweet Jerseygirl...........
December 2008
Hey Scooterheads! The last few weeks have been very busy for us!
We started off with a benefit for Bikers Against Child Abuse at Gypsy’s Blues,
Brews & BBQ. It was the inaugural event that managed to raise just over
$1100 bucks. The turnout was small but the people that were there still partied
down with us and we all had a good time. Gypsy (aka Bypsy ask her about it) will
hold another event next October for BACA around the same time. Gatekeeper &
the T-Blue band hooked us up with some good tunes. The next weekend was
Halloween and the 4th Party in the Pasture!!! I gotta give a big thank you to
all of you that came out and partied with us and helped raise monies for the
disabled vets. Thank you to everyone that volunteered and help with all the
backscene things that allow us to make it happen. The costumes for the Halloween
contest were a sight to see!
We will have the next one in May as long as all
goes well. A BIG ATA Biker to The Jimmy Sparks Band, Jenny Rimmer,Scootertrash
and THUNDERSTRUCK for donating their time and talents to keep us partying the
whole weekend.Stay tuned to the www.scootergoods.com website for dates and info
and be sure to comeback and bring all your friends! It is nonstop fun between
the bike and adult games, the bands, food, vendors and all the After we
recovered from the rodeo we had a few days to pack up again and shoot down to
Lakeland for the 23rd Roscoe’s Chili Challenge. This party has been going on
for a long time now and I gotta tell you they got their schitt together. Roscoe
and their emcee Pogo kepe this party going non stop with a great assortment of
entertainment. Besides the Chili cookoff which gives out a $1000.00 purse to the
winner, they have a bunch of bands that play al weekend along with a full day of
events saturday. Free beer on saturday while it lasts during the chili tasting,
bike games, horseshoes, mini bike races, arm wrestling, tattoo contests, maybe
even a nipple piercing on stage.Followed by a kick ass opening cermony which
salutes all branches of our armed services.Lastly it ends up with the beauty
contest. I was so busy hanging out in the campground with the Florida Party
Syndiate and their stripper pole I almost missed it! Be sure to check out their
website www.roscoeschilichallenge.com for next years cookoff info. Have a great
holiday season and I’ll see ya’ll at the next party or bike nite.Merry Xmas
& a Happy New Year from HDGene & SweetJerseygirl!!
November 2008
Look out, it’s November already! The 4th Party in the Pasture
will be going on or in the books, along with the election, by the time you get
this month’s issue. We overcame a big opposition to get the rodeo on and it’s
on! let’s all try and do the right thing and respect J.O. Batten’s property
and his neighborhood with trash and be aware the police will most likely be a
mandated attraction so play it cool in the surrounding area and not give the
county any ammunition to not have another event. The next rodeo will become an
annual event every May so be sure to keep coming back! This last month we spent
alot of cooler riding time hitting the local bike nites of Coney Island &
Pit Stop There are alot of newer bike nites and events popping up as well. Be
sure to check the www.scootergoods.com website regularly to see whats going on
in your area. We also got to hit up Spooks N Scoots! Good times for sure
whenever you get a group of bikers together to this event, They had right around
1500 people this year, a little less than last year but a whole bunch more than
the Flashback party during Labor Day weekend. It still shows times are tight, I
heard alot of the other event that weekend also had lower than normal
attendances. Gotta say that the Hillsborough Abate chapter does a great job of
organizing this event and pulling in the good bands with Running Hard,Edgewater
Band,Ineeda Brunette and the Ed Wright bands. A sheriff did have to roll in once
Saturday nite, that damn K-9 dog wouldn’t stop barking for some weird reason.
We’ll all follow up next month with reports on the Rodeo and the 1st annual
Gypsy’s Blues, Brews & BBQ party and other events. Have a safe upcoming
holiday season and ride safe and live free! HDGene & Sweet Jerseygirl
October 2008 HD GENE Hey Scooterheads, the fall season is finally here!
With that comes a whole slew of big events to keep us busy. I managed to run out
to the last day of the Abate State Flashback party during Labor Day weekend.
Between the rain and I guess the obvious bad economic times out there they only
had just over 250 people out to their event. But I still ran into quite a few
familiar faces and we all still had a good time. Abate’s next big party is
Spooks N Scoots Oct. 10-12th. This is not just a party, it is also a time to
reflect on our fallen friends in the wind. If you have never been to Spooks, the
ceremony they do is very heartfelt. Alot of accidents stories have been comin in
recently so be careful out there. Also make sure you keep in touch with the new
laws like dropping both feet when coming to a stop or you will get a ticket. We
got alot of other parties coming up, Injun Joe’s B-Day was a blast, hope to do
another stripper club run soon! After Spooks of course is Biketoberfest in
Daytona. Im gonna hang back and support the local events, Daytona is fun but I
like it better during the off season. This event is held to support Bikers
Against Child Abuse. It is in Masaryktown, just south of County line road 3.5
miles. Contact Gypsy at 828-284-3620 for more info or vendor information. After
that is our B-Day Party in the Pasture for J.O. Batten on Halloween weekend so
be sure to come out and raise a glass and show you costume or lack of it! Lastly
making the big event rounds is Roscoe’s Chili Challenge in lakeland.
www.roscoeschilichallenge.com November 7-9th. SO we will all need a vacation
after this month. I know alot of people are tight on cash so pick and choose
which event you can do and I hope to see you at them all and share a brew. Until
next month ride safe and live free!
HDGene & SweetJerseygirl
September 2008
It’s been hard to get any good riding in with all the rain we
have been getting lately but we managed to get a few dry runs in last month. We
had a great day and good turnout for the Silverback Titty Bar Run for Gorilla
Joe’s 40th B-day. We started off at Crossroads Brooksville) for breakfast and
shot over to Wes Harris Motorsports for a Bikini Bike Wash and free hot dogs
& hamburgers. The girls were looking fine and washed a bunch a bikes.
Gunslinger had to have them wash his whitewalls several times just so he could
get a better look! Next we stopped at The Connections for a free drink they were
handing out coupons for at WH. Then we finally hit the road and partied
down at Calendar Girls and Lolipops. I think
the girls we brought with us thought it was their birthday. No worries there, it’s
always a guaranteed good time when you bring women with you to the strip club!
We had such a good time that we are going To do the same thing again September
6th. Injun Joe’s birthday is that day and we will meet up at the Crossroads Brooksville)
around 1pm and ride out to both places again so meet up with us, the more the
merrier! The next main event we did was the 3rd Anniversary party at Sleepy Hollow.
We made the last turn to pull up to the Hollow and the place was packed. Parking spilled
over to the main road! Jenny Rimmer sing a great variety of music that day
andkept everyone entertained. The only complaints heard was the amount of time
to get a beer. Reverend Rich had a lot of hungry people on hand for his seafood
and steak dinner 5 dollar deals. Lastly we hit the first bike night out at the
newly opened Pit Stop Bar & Grill. Their first one got rained out so we had
to wait another 2 weeks for it to come about. They had a decent crowd out and it
will get bigger. Its a real nice place, somewhere different to go!The food is
good and they run beer and food specials during bike nights which run every
other wednesday the same week as Coney Islands bike nights. Alot of birthdays
are coming up and just passed so to all that are coming up in September ( Injun
Joe, J.O. Batten, Michelle) and whomever else lets get together and have fun and
stay safe. This months article is brought to you by a new Herbal Essence product
called " Drama Clean", I suggest everyone carry a small trial size
bottle so even the fat tire boys can carry some on their scoots and rinse down
if some bullshit comes your way! Until next month ride safe and live free!

WORDS FROM JERSY GIRL We all know that bikers are our most generous people
around when it comes to raising funds for any event needed, along with
donating their time for a cause. Now i would like to speak of a girl who
does something for the bikers and also donates her time. Her name is Jenny
Rimmer and if you have ever been to Sleepy Hollow then you know who i am
speaking about. Whenever we have free time ourselves, you can bet you will
see the Apple Dumpling gang, (Scootergood peeps) stop by, drink a beer,
grab a bite to eat and listen to Jenny belt out the tunes. Lately, I
myself have noticed that after her time is up when doing her gig, she has
been telling the audience that she will stay as long as the audience
wants. She also takes request and when someone mentions a song that has
already been sung, she always replies as long as the audience doesnt mind
then neither so I. Also one more mention about Jenny & her husband,
her biggest supporter, they came by the Brooksville " Party in the
pasture" for a leisurely day and next thing I knew there she was
standing under the large wonderful American flag singing the National
Anthem. So hats off to you Jenny, we appreciate and admire all that you do
for us biker folks.Be sure to check out her website www.jennyrimmer.com
for booking & other information.
Until we meet again "peace" Sweet JerseyGirl
July 2008
Well a bunch of us scooterheads got together to run down to Deadwood
saturday morning. After hitting the Crossroads in Brooksville for some
breakfast we all rode down to check it out.It was a pretty big layout on
the water with a new stage for the bands to play on. I got to hear Jimmy
Sparks and Greg Billing who were both great. But we spent more time I
think at Calendar Girls than the actual event. Mainly because of the same
things that I heard most people complain about. You cant do much about the
heat, but the main complaints I heard was the $4.00 bud draft beer prices,
they thought the food was included in the admission price of $15.00 like
the last event, and that the event seemed to be too commercialized to name
a few. Other comments about Deadwood Stampede can be found on the
www.scootergoods.com website. CG was great because they had a variety of
drinks at a much more reasonable price, it was nice and cold from the ac
and a Scootergoods favorite, Titties & Beer! On the way out we passed
a group coming in and heard one guy say "That’s not a good
sign!". ( Cont. from Pg. 25)The main thing I dont get as of yet was
the event’s cause:THIS EVENT IS BEING HELD TO RECOGNIZE AND REMEMBER
THOSE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE SERVED IN OUR ARMED FORCES, THOSE THAT ARE
CURRENTLY DEPLOYED AND THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN THE ULTIMATE SACRAFICE SO WE
HERE AT HOME CAN HAVE A STAMPEDE! I’m down with that, I met one couple
who met in the service there and were married and the husband was going
back to Iraq for his 13th tour. God bless you man, I’m sorry I didnt get
a chance to talk with you more. But what I didn’t get was the first event
helped fund raise for the Dawn center for battered women and I’m pretty
sure this was a for profit event.girls were fine, but I dont think alot of
people cared about a waterski show or buying a boat at a biker event. I
know they hooked up Lea’s Prayers & postage with a free spot to
auction off a TV(donated by Walmart) which was cool, but as of yet I haven’t
heard of anything else.Nothing wrong with making money but from the
complaints I have read maybe they need to change a few things. I know ALOT
of work goes into putting together this type of event but if they want to
charge that kind of admission and charge vendors the amounts they did (see
www.deadwoodgem.com vendor application) they need to rethink what they are
doing and add some more things to do during the day. The bike show had
some nice rides and the deadwood gem Ok Im off my soapbox, Im not here to
bash an event, just relate the comments I heard. We had a good time and a
fun ride out regardless because as long as we are out in the wind, with
our friends, who gives a shit about anything else! Ride
Safe! HDGene &
