The Good Things Bikers / Scootergoods Readers Do !!!

I was looking for an address to mail someone at Scooter Goods to say
thanks and this couldn't be a better forum! I want to say thank you to all
of the Scooter Goods staff and friends that support the Troops overseas and at home!  I am Army Sergeant First Class Robert Bailey presently deployed in support of Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, a few of you know mesa Sergeant Bailey, who supported the family of SPC Cody Grater after his unfortunate death in Iraq. Thanks to all of you for your support and also thanks for letting me hang with all of you at the Brooksville
Old School Biker Rodeo in Nov, I'll be looking for you guys at the Rodeo
in May so save me a spot to pitch my tent because I'm staying all
weekend! Thanks again, Rob Bailey Sergeant First Class United States Army

On Dec 9th 2007 the biker community in Hernando Cty held a Toy Run for the less fortunate. 2 weeks earlier we all gathered to help the Sheriffs dept gather toys for their event. But on the 9th WE WHERE KICKED DIRECTLY IN THE BALLS when 2 of our fellow bikers where issued tickets for protecting us from STUPID CAGERS by blocking a intersection while we passed. We would  like to let the Hernando Goon Squad know that a collection was taken up to pay  the $120.00 tickets and they in turn donated it to all the children at the end of the run.

Hello Everyone , Its Melissa Haehnel once again writing to you all to inform you that thanks to Don V , Chris , Buzz and everyone else from Scootergoods , My daughter WILL be having a Christmas . You have no idea how thankful we are for you guys. Sunday, Dec.16,2007 Chris and Buzz came over to my house with gifts galore for my daughter . You guys are unbelievable . We thank you so much. It means the world to us and especially my daughter Sara  that you were able to put together such a nice arrangement of gifts for her and my family. I can never thank you enough for all that you have done . I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. Now we will too !! Thank you again so very much from the bottom of our hearts ! God bless you !

My name is Melissa Haehnel , I am Hans Haehnel's Wife and I wanted to thank Don V and ScooterGoods Magazine for the article you put on the website about 2 weeks ago about my husband being in a motorcycle accident and also thank you guys so very much for the money you raised for Hans myself and my 12 Month old daughter , we really appreciate the support ,it really means a lot to us that you and the fellow scooterheads went out of your way for us. Although Hans has a long road to recovery, he is home for now but still can not walk for a few weeks until the pins are removed from his foot and the fracture in his neck is healed. So Christmas is unfortunately crossed off our list for my daughter being that Hans will not work for a while and I myself am a stay at home mom. But at least her father is alive, and with all the love and support I’m sure we will make it through this very rough time. But please let us thank you again so much for your time and effort in helping us. Thank you

Love , Hans , Melissa , & Sara Haehnel

LENNY THE MOVER TAKES THE BULL BY THE HORNS

Lenny and several brothers and sisters did a kick ass job on July 15th at Prowerlz in New Port Richey.  There were vendors, a DJ, a pig roast, drink specials and live music by Trilogy Band.  The turnout was great considering the temperature was soaring. The money raised for Tim (aka T-Dog) will assist with his medical bills and other expenses he incurred from his near fatal crash on January 20th. We had brothers from the Outlaws, Black Pistons, Pagans, Goodfellows and the  Suncoast Brotherhood just to name a few.  In addition to all my friends, I wanted to also give a special thanks to the following for weeks of hard work and their donations:

Lenny & Terri ,V-Twin of Clearwater ,Bobby & Glenda,Car Quest of Dunedin ,Kevin & Maryanne                                     Advance Auto of Dunedin ,Larry & Wanda,Team Florida of Clearwater,Jeff & Vivian ,T.J.’s of Dunedin Ray,Office Depot of Countryside ,Rocco, Fed-X/Kinko of Clearwater ,Dan, Biff Burgers of St Petersburg ,Lenny The Mover & Son,Elite Services of New Port Richey,The Palms of Palm Harbor,Recycle Cycle,Hot Nails of Largo,Cherry Bombs Tattoo of Dunedin ,Atomic Tattoos of Largo   ,Profile Customs of Largo ,Bad Kitty of Largo,Causeway Inn of Dunedin,Gulf Coast Harley Davidson of New Port ,Molly Goodheads of Ozona ,Boyd’s Backyard of Palm Harbor ,Dan of Dunedin Blue Jays,Advance Auto of Clearwater ,NAPA of New Port Richey, Minar Food Store of Largo ,To all that participated, gave and attended – God Bless Tim & Kim

Tim Glegg was traveling home from working overtime on January 20th and was cut-off by a pick-up truck.  Per the FHP, Tim was launched over 120 feet into the oncoming traffic on Hillsborough Ave.  The positive side - he is still with us, unfortunately, his injuries included a crushed ankle, a broken tibia, a broken fibula, a broken pelvis, a broken vertebrae, a head injury and of course, road rash.   Tim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was admitted and sent to emergency surgery to stop the internal bleeding in his pelvis.  Later surgery included trying to mend his ankle. Tim’s initial hospital stay was 11 days, 3 of which were in ICU.  Tim has had 3 additional surgeries since then, one was to place a permanent metal plate & screws to set his leg along with the placement of an external fixator (5 days in the hospital), the second surgery was to have the external fixator removed (2 days in the hospital).  The last surgery was to confirm what we have feared – Tim now has a serious infection in his leg that has affected the metal plate & screws (6 days in the hospital).   Tim is on intravenous antibiotics (total of 6 weeks) and will have to have another surgery to remove the plate and screws that were to be permanent, providing the bone has healed enough to support his leg (sometime in August). The doctors are unsure if the infection has gotten into the bone at this point – we are hoping that it has not and Tim will heal (and walk) as best he can – if it has, we will take whatever needs to be done in stride and move on. Needless to say, the road has been long & rocky.  We both want to thank you for  your support during this trying time and say how much we appreciate your concern and well wishes.  Please ride safe and keep your knees in the wind and watch out for others who don’t watch out for us! T-Dog & Kim

Jessie’s House Run
On the 24th of June a Texas hold’em poker run was held to benefit Jessie’s Place. When Jessie’s Place open’s, it will be a Child Advocacy Center, or a Safe Haven for abused children. The run started at the Crystal River Harley Davidson. By last bike out time, there was still a line of people signing up for the run. The Chapdog & I went to the first stop & had a late breakfast. The Loft had some great biscuits & gravy. We had some time to kill, so we went over to the mouse trap in Inglis to have a cold one to wash down breakfast. You can’t buy beer on Sunday’s in citrus co. Until 1pm. After a couple beers, we headed to the Cove Campground. They have a nice bar & some great food. Make sure you watch the speed bumps when your going in & out of there. They are pretty big & there are quite a few of them. After some picture taking, conversation, & a cold one or two we headed to Citrus Motor sports in Crystal River. The Jimmy Sparks band was jammin when we arrived. Vendors were set up with all kinds of goodies & food. Door prizes were given away while the bike show was being judged. The winners of the poker run were,( I hope I get this right) 1st Place, $1000 went to Clair DeForst with a straight flush.(wow!). Second Place with 4 sevens went to Charles Takluts. Third Place was Cat Chum. I don’t know what kind of hant they had, but is sure beat mine. A total of $2000 was given away. We had a lot of fun & met some new friends. Ride Safe and Often Charlie W.

On May 25th,26th,&27th, the Law Dawgs MC held the 1st annual event to support the wounded veterans. This event was held in Lake Panasoffkee, at the Waters Edge Lounge. There was a real good turnout for the 3 day event. There was a poker run during the event that helped raise money for the vets. There was also several other things going on to raise money. They had a "Dunk The Cop" booth where you could throw a softball at the target and dunk the cop if you hit it right. Some people just ran over and hit it with their hand.Oh well, it was hot any way.I dod’nt mind the heat because the girls were taking cloths off trying to keep cool.I met several people at the event who had kids, brotherrs, sisters, etc. over in Iraq so we can have the freedom that we enjoy so much.I met the parents of Chance Bradley who has done multiple tours over there. They are some great folks. I am going to make sure we send those guys some copies of Scootergoods Mag. when this article comes out in July.I met Johnny McDaris, who is a Viet Nam Vet.

lake3.jpg (39948 bytes) lake2.jpg (27742 bytes) lake1.jpg (56935 bytes)

I talked to him about everything and really had a good time chewing the fat together.I met a really great guy named Gregg Garvey who lost his son Justin Garvey who served with the 101st Airborne Division. Justin was killed in an ambush near Tal Afar, Iraq.. Mr Garvey does not want these soldiers that are lost to be forgotten. He is on a mission to put up monuments in all of the fallen soldiers home towns. God bless you Mr. Garvey. It was nice to see so many people who care about our troops that are in the hospitals. This event will help put some TVs,pool tables, ping pong tables, and many other things there for them to enjoy while they are there at the hospital. There were also vendors selling all kinds of things from dew rags to motorcycles. Citrus Motor Sports gave up a small motorcycle to auction off to raise some more money. The bands were sweating their asses off out there, but kept on pumping out the tunes. My friend Chapdog got so hot he started wearing a turban on his head. We called him " Osama Bin Ridin". And he had bin ridin too. We had a lot of fun out of that. Thanks to all of the people who were responsible for this event. This was a great event for a GREAT CAUSE! All of you folks did a hell of a good job. I can’t wait for the next one. Remember these vets in the hospital & if you get a chance, grab a couple of friends and go by and say hello. Just tell them thanks, that’s all they need to hear. They will not be forgotten at my house.Ride Safe & Often,                        Charlie W.

June 9th,2007
Lea’s Prayers & Postage: After the lose of her son 21 yr. old Marine Corps Sgt. Lea Robert Mills, killed in Iraq last year, Dee Mills got to work to do something positive for Our Troops in Iraq and to honor Lea’s memory. She rolled up her sleeves and created Lea’s Prayers and Postage Inc., a 501 c-3 nonprofit organization based in
Masaryktown, Fl. that sends boxes of hope and support to our fighting men and women in the Middle East. The run started at at Marine Corps League Detachment 708, in Brooksville with stops at the IR-RU in Floral City, VFW Post 8681, Hooters,& Ended at the Bayport Inn.

A big ATA BIKER goes to the Bayport for their generous donation of $500.00 dollars. Also the IR-RU for another contribution of $200.00. The winner of the Poker Run also donated back his $450.00 bucks and several others also donated cash to the cause. It was a prime example of Biker and Biker Establishment caring and generosity. Members of Freedom Abate & the Military Vets M/C where represented to show support for Dee also. If you would like to help Dee here’s her info: Lea’s Prayers and Postage, Inc., PO Box 9000, Masaryktown, FL 34604. Dee can be reached via land line at 352-799-8573. So call & see what you can do to help this dedicated & courageous Marine Mom!

A thanks from Dee Mills
Total Riders was 112.  Number of bikes 88. Total raised $2,861.60. That translates into 319 packages for the troops at $8.95 a flat rate box.  The turn out was good for the first event but I am hoping for many more bikes next year.  I don't think the patriotism from the group we had could possibly be matched.  It means so much to know that what my son was doing for his country didn't go unnoticed.  I can't wait to write a letter to go in the boxes and tell them what great support they have. We still have a lot of shirts if anyone is interested in making a donation.  They are $10.00 a shirt.  Phone 952-799-8573
Thanks to you all,  Dee Mills Once a Marine Mom always a Marine Mom.

Dee Mills (left) takes donations for her Lea's Prayers and Postage organization.

This past year hasn't been easy for Dee Mills.

About a year ago, her 21-year-old son and Marine sergeant Lea Mills was killed while serving in Iraq. Dee Mills said she has struggled with the pain of losing her son ever since.

"It's the most major adjustment you'll ever make in your life,'' said Mills, who lives in Brooksville. "Just learning to accept it I guess is the really the hardest part of it. That it's a reality."

That reality has motivated Mills to create a slice of home for other soldiers overseas.

More Information

Soon after her son's death, Mills turned her attention to creating a non-profit organization designed to help soldiers. It's called Lea's Prayers and Postage.

The organization raises money to pay for postage so care packages can be sent to troops overseas.

In only a year, more than $20,000 worth of postage has been paid for by the organization.

"It's the right thing to do,'' said Don Varrieur, one of several motorcycle riders who participated in Saturday's ride rally to raise money for the organization. "We need to support the people that are taking care of keeping us free."

BROOKSVILLE — It was not hard to locate Mark Lunsford in a crowd of bikers.

Like John Walsh and Sharon Rocha before him — parents of murder victims whose cases earned national attention — he has been on the news countless times since his 9-year-old daughter, Jessica, was killed.

He also stood out because he donned a black leather vest decorated with the image of his daughter’s most famous photo, the one of her joyfully smiling toward the camera with her long brown bangs sticking out from under her pink hat.

Before traveling to Miami to attend the trial of the man charged in his daughter’s death, Lunsford personally thanked the hundreds of bikers who attended Sunday’s Bikers Against Pedophiles (B.A.P.) Rally at the Marine Corps League Detachment 708 on Sunshine Grove Road.

“The bikers have always been supportive,” he said before addressing the crowd. “When Jessie was missing, they came together to help search for her.”

The rally took place less than 24 hours before the start of today’s jury selection in the murder trial of John E. Couey, who is accused of raping and murdering 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford in Citrus County two years ago.

The parking lot was filled with rows of sparkling chrome-framed motorcycles and choppers while hundreds of denim- and leather-clad bikers drank beer, swapped stories and showed off their bikes as classic rock music blared in the background.

Many of the motorcyclists knew Lunsford through their respective clubs, while others were meeting him for the first time. He grabbed a microphone midway through the rally and with a quiet and sometimes-quivering voice, thanked everyone who attended.

The crowd erupted into applause when Lunsford announced 26 states had passed “Jessie’s Law,” which is a law that sets tighter restrictions against sexual offenders and predators and gives them harsher prison sentences if convicted.

“Please talk amongst yourselves and talk about what you can do,” Lunsford said. “It’s all about awareness and education.”

A silent auction was conducted, as well as a 50/50 ticket raffle. T-shirts were available for $15 each. All of the proceeds went to the Jessica Marie Lunsford Foundation.

The idea for Sunday’s endeavor came about late last year, when local bikers held a phone card rally for troops serving in Iraq and Afghani-stan. The event, like the one Sunday, was co-sponsored by the Marine Corps Detachment and Scootergoods Magazine. The organizers passed around concepts for future fundraisers and they came away with the idea for the B.A.P. Rally.

“The (group) of us started talking and here we are,” said Senior Vice Commandant Ken Craddock, who stood with Lunsford and placed his hand on his shoulder while the latter addressed the crowd. “I had a feeling the (turnout) would be like this.”

Diane “Turtle” Norris sashayed through the crowd collecting money for the 50/50 raffle. She kept a smile on her face the entire time. Her jar was stuffed in a matter of minutes.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” she said after a disc jockey pointed to her and asked the crowd to donate.

Norris held the jar in one hand and a roll of raffle tickets in the other, raised them both over her head and spun around in the attempts to attract more attention.

Organizers said the B.A.P. Rally will be an annual event.

Lunsford said it was not the sum of money collected during Sunday’s fundraiser that will make the biggest impact.

“What’s important is awareness,” he said. “When everyone leaves here today, they are going to start looking into things and start doing things to help.”

Lunsford said motorcycles contributed to the strong relationship he had with his daughter. That is why it made sense for him to turn to his fellow riders for assistance in honoring her memory.

“Jessie was always my riding partner,” he said.

Bikers rally in memory of Jessica Lunsford

Hernando County, Florida – Like any motorcycle rally there’s plenty of rumbling pipes, shiny chrome and guys who dress like they’re bad to the bone. But underneath these rough exteriors are some big hearts. Don Walker, Biker:“The most dedicated and honest people you can be around is us biker people.”You see, this Hernando County biker rally is for a special cause. It’s in the memory of Jessica Lunsford; the 9-year-old Homosassa girl who was murdered nearly two years ago. And money raised from the event will help Jessica’s father, Mark Lunsford, fight for tougher laws for sexual offenders. Squigg” Squillante, Biker:“‘Cuz you know we got to stop these sickos in our society, it’s just crazy.”Tomorrow in Miami, jury selection starts in the trial of John Couey, the man accused of killing Jessica. And Mark Lunsford says this rally will help fortify him for the tough, emotional days to come.Mark Lunsford, Jessica’s father:“It’s important to me and I’m glad to see so many people get together and talk about kids and what’s going on with them. Because the more we talk about it, the more we can get done.”Money raised from the event will go to the Jessica Lunsford Foundation and the rumbling good vibrations found here will no doubt echo with Mark Lunsford down the road.

Thanks to all the Scooterheads that came out to support Wild Willy Harris Jan 7th 2007 ! Willy was hit by another careless Cager!  Hope to see you back on the Scoot Soon Willy!

Helpin’ "Wild Willie Harris"

On Sunday 01/07/2007 Jim Collins Memorial Fund held a fund raiser (poker run) for Will " Wild Willie" Harris who was hurt in a motorcycle accident. At least 168 bikers & friends met at the Crystal River American Legion on hwy 44 for breakfast and sign up for the run. The first stop was the Mouse Trap in Inglis Fl. They were all set up with plenty of help and cold beverages. We headed out to the Silver Moon next for stop # 2. Everything was going fine except for one flat tire. Some folks pitched in , found a compressor, aired him up and sent him on his way. (thanks for the help) We hung around the Silver Moon long enough so that the bar would be open at our next stop, the VFW in Beverly Hills. You can’t sell alcohol on Sunday in Citrus Cty. until 1:00pm. Willie was a bartender at the VFW in Beverly Hills. Stop # 4 took us back out to hwy 41 to the Thunder Inn. It was getting real warm by this time. The Thunder Inn staff was great. At one time, the parking lot turned into a burnout pit, and a hole shot strip. Everyone was safe and had a lot of fun. We loaded up and headed for stop # 5, the VFW in Inverness on hwy 44. There was plenty of food to eat ,and lots of room in the AC to enjoy it. Well, it was time to go see Wild Willie at the Waters Edge Sports Pub on hwy 470 in Lake Panasofkie .(did I spell that right?) Willie was there in a wheel chair. He also had a recliner to kick back in. Willie was very thankful to everyone for there help. It make me feel good to help someone who also helps others. . A lot of Rolling Thunder Brothers & Sisters were there. A total of $2519 was raised for Willie. I also saw quite a few people stuffing green stuff in Willie’s pockets. That's great man. With a good feeling in my heart, we headed towards the house in search of my own recliner. A job well done goes out to everyone who had a part in this run.
Ride Safe & Often,  Charlie W.

A letter of Thanks To Our Readers from Iraq

Dear Staff and Admired Readers,

Thank you very much for the support that you have shown us through your Bike Run. We deeply appreciate the time that everybody took away from their personal engagements to help us feel a little bit closer to home. It is through the actions of your contributors and readers that we are able to feel the impartial and unadulterated loyalty that you have for the Armed Forces. Whether it be Army, Marines, Air Force or Navy; we are all in it for the same reason. To bring closure to this troubled area of the world called the Middle East. The ‘Sand Box’, as we commonly refer to Iraq, is a dangerous and volatile place but one that is full of hope for the future. We are all trying to do our part with honor and dignity, as are the Iraqi people. That same honor must be given to those citizens of America that, like yourselves, bringing comfort to those of us that are on the front lines . May God Bless each and every one of you and keep you safe on two wheels.
With the highest regards,
CPL (P) ENEA
